BIDDING PRAYERS

1ST SUNDAY OF LENT; 6th March 2022

Download: 220306 1Lent

Priest:             The Lord hears our voice. In the midst of all our troubles the Lord hears us and, if we follow, will lead us to a promised land of peace. So today we bring all our concerns to the Lord:

Reader:          For the Church; that, led by the spirit to embrace prayer, fasting and almsgiving, the Church may learn anew that we do not live by bread alone.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For peace in our world, especially in Ukraine at the present time; that God will turn the hearts of leaders of nations to seek ways of dialogue and diplomacy to solve disputes and conflicts.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For those forced to flee from their homes; may we all respond with kindness and hospitality to those who seek refuge in fear and heartbreak.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          We pray for the work of Cafod and other aid agencies; may our Lent Family Fast Day next Friday raise both awareness in ourselves of those who are in need, and funding for their many projects around the world.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For the grace to make a good Lent; that, led by the spirit into the Lenten wilderness, we may encounter our demons and experience victory over temptation.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          For our Parish; in the light of the Synod called by Pope Francis, may we listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and seek true paths of “Communion, Participation and Mission” to renew the Church in our age.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us remember especially today (Maurice Cookson & Leslie Parker: Vigil Mass); (The Parish,  9.30 am Mass); (Michael Jones: 11am Mass); (Special Intention: 6.30pm) for whom this Mass is offered.

And also, all the faithful departed, especially those who have died recently, including, June Gent and Orlana Goodchild; may they be raised up on the last day.

Lord in your mercy ……………………………….Hear our prayer

Reader:          Let us pray for our own private intentions; (pause).   We ask Mary, our Mother, to join her prayers to ours: Hail Mary …

Priest:             Loving Father, we place our trust in you. Hear and grant the prayers we offer today through Christ our Lord. Amen.
